My name is Darla Burns and I have been married since 1994 and have 2 wonderful children.  I have been passionate about birth as long as I can remember.  I started doing doula work in 1990 but only realized in 2003 that there was a name for the work I was doing.  I immediately took my training to be a Certified Labor Doula and then continued on that path and became a Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Happiest Baby on the Block Instructor , Infant Massage Instructor,  and a Certified Lactation Educator. 

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and support lactating families in Santa Clarita.
 
In 2007, I became CAPPA Postpartum Doula Faculty and began holding Postpartum Doula Trainings in California.

In 2013, I founded Doula University.   As of December 2025, I have trained over 900 Postpartum Doulas nationwide! My trainings have been approved by Perinatal Professionals Association for certification.

From 2009-2013, I served as the Executive Director of Postpartum Doulas for CAPPA where I managed the Postpartum Doula Program and Faculty in the U.S. in Canada.  In 2015, I joined the Board of Directors for the non-profit The BIRTH Foundation which provides midwifery and doula services to low-income and military families.  From January 2016 through June 2017, I served as Vice President of the non-profit doula organization Doulas Association of Southern California. 

For doula work, I currently serve the Santa Clarita Valley (including Valencia, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch, Castaic) and the San Fernando Valley. 

I hold Postpartum Doula Trainings throughout the state of California and may travel to other states, as needed.
